Transitioning Your Wardrobe for the Holidays

There are some pieces in my closet that I love wearing all year round. Some clothing I have is seasonal, but I manage to make it work. With the cold season coming up, I know I'll have to layer up. I heard it's going to be a brutal winter in North Dakota this year. I haven't officially experienced a bad winter in Minot yet. So with the tundra coming up, bundling up is a must!

Skirts are usually a spring/summer thing.. WRONG! I made this velvet circle skirt and paired it with my total tight from Dakota chappy. Total tights are probably the best investment ever. I wear it as an innerwear/ outerwear garment. It is made out of an athletic fabric so it regulates my body temperature and provides full coverage. The top I'm wearing was thrifted years ago and it is still going strong. The jean jacket was from an old collection from Express. I think everyone should have a denim jacket. Let's talk about the shoes. I love chucks. Having a pair of white shoes is really hard to take care of. Seriously, if I could go back, I would purchase another pair of black chucks. Chokers are a thing right now and for some reason I love it. I know it was in fashion in the 90s, but I was a little kid then and my mom dressed me.

For the holidays, red is overly acceptable. Velvet is even a better touch. The look is so festive. This outfit has the perfect combination of casual and dressy for a day to night transformation. Throughout the day I'll wear my converse and denim jacket. When it's night and I want to go out to dinner, I'll slip into a pair of pumps and throw on a trench coat.

Designing is in my genes. My grandmother is a seamstress and my mother has always been creative. Fashion design is something I'm really passionate about. I whipped up this circle skirt for an episode of KMSU Channel 19 Inside Out. I literally made this skirt 45 minutes before going live. It was really cool to wear a design of mine on air.

I recently started to sell some custom fashion designs and small accessories. A big seller of mine are my necklace chokers. I have an Etsy account, but prefer to sell in person. Different designs will be showcased each month and I will have a limited amount of each. So make sure to get your chokers while they last!
